Every now and then I come across
expressions of doubt in unexpected quarters as to our
intention or capacity to resume the administration
of Kong Kong and one of the latest I have seen is in
the proceedings of one of the Sub-Committees of the
Far Eastern Committee (F.E.(E)(45) 5th Meeting,
paragraph 4). It is important that there should
be no doubt about our resolution in the matter and
none is justified least of all in official circles.
Do you think that the relevant part of the Prime
Minister's minute of the 11th April regarding his
conversation with General Hurley could be brought
to the notice of all officials concerned with Far
Eastern planning? I enclose a copy of that extract
for convenience of reference (A copy was sent to
Mr.Lawford in the Foreign Office from No.10 in a
